MYRTLE BEACH GOLF

Well, it’s coming soon for twenty-four golfers from Georga. We always travel to Myrtle Beach Golf Resort for our five days golf classic. A practice round on Tuesday and then the classic golf event begins on Wednesday to Saturday. Tee times are set for Wednesday and Thursday to see who has advanced to top of the leader board as each day the leaders can change all the always to the final day on Saturday. That final day will rank first to last for the event.

I have a large handicap of thirty-three strokes. The advantage I have can do very good if I only keep my golf balls in the fairways. Being seventy-six years old I do not hit my ball as far as many stronger golfers in the field. Just keeping my balls straight and I will do fairly good each day. As we all are looking forward to Saturday’s final match to become this year’s champion. Now the play for this week’s becomes the real thing on my mind.

Last year my brother who plays in this golf classic told me you know golf is playing, hunting, and fishing. Playing is the most important part in the game of golf. Stay out of the woods hunting for your ball. Fishing balls out of the water does not help your golf game. I know that, but he loves to needle me from time to time.

After each day’s play is finished, we relax and prepare to find a nice restaurant. Fellowship with many golfers in a nice meal and drinks would also be a great part of the golf trip with golf being our final goal. There is lots of cash to win each day for that day’s good efforts. It’s always early to rise and late to bed each day we are preparing for the next day match.

Well, I have found new changes in my game for this year. My new stand-alone putter has helped in my putting game. Probably 3 to 5 more made putts each round of golf. I been shown on putting in the range of 5 to 15 feet to set up and when ready to putt only look at the back of the cup as I putt. It seems like your eyes controls your speed. This has changed my game more than I could have believed.

My next change is my new 45 chipper. I have a lot of trouble getting my ball on greens when close to greens. Leaving the putts to long after on the greens and now my stand-alone putter gets me back into my game and saves many extra strokes. Well, that is my many new changes from last year’s equipment. Knowing golf is 90 percent between the ears will these changes be my surprise to move higher up the leaderboard this year.

The driver club is so important in getting your golf game started on most of the holes you are playing. I need a lot of practice time to see my balls from my driver staying mostly in the fairways in good shape. My irons are a big problem at this stage of my game. Learning my distance with my new range finder can help knowing which iron I need. I know a very important element when playing golf near the ocean is the sea level. You should use one iron longer at sea level because Myrtle Beach golf courses are low sea levels.

A funny thing happen on last year’s match. This funny thing happens on day four. Around the 10th hole my golf shoe’s sole opened wide and I duck taped it closed. My golf game changed as my game got much better after that day’s match finished. I decided to play my final day on Saturday wearing the taped shoe. I had one of the best days I ever played at this golf classic. I finished 11th of 24 golfers which was my best year to date. After returning to my home course this lucky shoe let down and I now own a new pair of golf shoes.

What I have found about golf is that it all is between one’s ears. You have good days and bad ones also.  Staying average is a good thing. You always think the next swing will be the best one you every done. A quote my mother said to me with very limited knowledge of golf was you hit the ball and now you go find it. Then you hit it again and after fining it the first time you are going after it again. That just does not make any reason why!

Golf gives you a time to enjoy other friends and golfers to be honest in your play. Keeping the game of golf true and fair to all who are competing on the course. some of my most memorable moments have come from the game of golf. Yes, golf can get into your blood! Always wanting to get better each time you tee it up. Practicing and your equipment are important, but always remember golf is a mental game. maybe someday I’ll see on the course.
